CFP: Early Book Society, July 2013

The thirteenth biennial EBS conference will be held at St. Andrews University, Scotland, from 4-7 July 2013. The theme for the conference is “Networks of Influence: Readers, Owners, and Makers of MSS and Printed Books, 1350-1550.” According to the CFP,

“networks” could allude to an affinity, friendships, communities, secular or religious or both, for example, while “influence” could be orthodox, heretical, royal, individual, and so on. “Networks” might allude further to collectors or cataloguers of medieval MSS or of related libraries. Lectures or proposed sessions that consider the transition from script to print, bibliographic issues, or the movement between English and Scottish texts (or vice versa) and audiences are particularly encouraged, though papers on any aspect of the history of manuscripts and printed books from 1350-1550 . . . are welcome.

The conference will feature special exhibitions from the collections at St. Andrews and the NLS.

The conference is open to all EBS members. For more about how to join, please see

Proposals are due by Nov. 15. Please send them to both Martha Driver (marthadriver [at] hotmail [dot] com) and Margaret Connolly (mc29 [at] st-andrews [dot] ac [dot] uk). Indicate in your proposal whether you will need a slide projector, over-head projector, or computer equipment.
